Procrastination is a common problem
Faced by many individuals, procrastination can hinder our progress towards achieving our goals. However, with the right mindset, it is possible to overcome this issue and achieve success in your business.
The right mindset is crucial in overcoming procrastination.
Work to develop your mindset everyday by, setting clear goals and then prioritize the tasks that will help you achieve those goals. It’s also important to stay motivated by reminding yourself of the reasons why getting the tasks done to achieve these goals will benefit you. Staying organized and breaking down tasks into smaller, more manageable steps can help avoid feeling overwhelmed and encourage progress as well. Lastly, if you want maximum success achievement, hold yourself accountable and stay disciplined by creating a routine; and stick to it. Procrastination is a plague, but you can overcome it and achieve success in your business, once you decide to get your mind right.

Here are three things you can do to take more action each day and improve task completion:
#1 – Set Achievable Goals
Break down larger tasks into smaller, more manageable goals. This will help you avoid feeling overwhelmed, and it will allow you to focus on completing one task at a time.
- Imagine a student has a big project due at the end of the semester. Instead of waiting until the last minute to complete it, they break it down into smaller, more manageable goals. They set a goal to complete research and gather all necessary materials by the end of the first week, then to create an outline by the end of the second week, to write the first draft by the end of the third week, and so on. By breaking the project down into smaller tasks, the student is able to focus on completing one goal at a time, which prevents them from feeling overwhelmed. This approach also allows them to track their progress and adjust their plan if necessary, which can ultimately lead to a more successful outcome.
- Now imagine that, instead of a student, we’re talking about you and a big project you have to do at work to accomplish something big. You should attack it the same way as our young student here and start by breaking the project down to the sum of its parts. Analyze it and figure out what steps need to be done, and in what order. Set goals and deadlines for yourself to accomplish each task so that they will all be completed and the overall project is done with time to spare. This allows you the ability to see the larger picture, focus your energies on a single part instead of trying to do everything at once, and will give you a much better result than if you had been more scattered about the task. As you complete each part, celebrate the victory. Give yourself a pat on the back for a job well done. Then move on to the next task until they have all been completed and the project is done. If you do it this way, not only will you end up with a better outcome, but the journey to get there will be more enjoyable as well.
#2 – Create a Schedule
Plan out your day in advance, including specific times for completing tasks. This will help you stay on track and avoid distractions. In order to focus your energies, have a daily target for specific task completions as well. People often overlook the power that a task sheet can hold for them. As an example, my daily task list requires that, as my day progresses, I have to do a minimum of 3 things that have the potential to generate revenue on the spot. That could be sending a contract for signature, holding a meeting in which I make a closing offer that someone can agree to, or even as simple as putting out a post which contains a link to purchase one of my products. The point is that my task sheet keeps me focused, and my mindset keeps me on task to get through it because I made the decision, a long time ago, not to end my day until my task sheet is cleared. It works great for me, and it will work for you too. I highly recommend it.
#3 – Hold Yourself Accountable
Set consequences for not completing tasks on time. This could be something as simple as not allowing yourself to watch TV until the task is complete, or not being able to go to lunch until you have reached a certain point. I do that one myself as well, and I can tell you that many a day have gone by when I end up taking my lunch around 2 or 3pm instead of noon. The discipline to hold yourself accountable and steadfast to the benchmarks you set is as much an art as it is a skill to be mastered. Training yourself to think this way, and to force yourself to keep moving, even if it is hard which it will be sometimes, takes focus and determination. Not everyone has these skills within them, but all of us can learn these skills and use them for our betterment. Wrap your mindset around task completion, instead of the overall goal, and then focus on reminding yourself not to stop until these tasks are completed. You will find that do this will greatly enhance your life in a myriad of ways.
